This patch concept was drawn in 1989 by Dr. Andrews and his children while they were sitting at the kitchen table in their home on Pinewood Drive. Each part of the tree represents one of the founding members of the Pinewood Karate Club. The five branches are supported by a tree trunk drawn to represent the side profile of a woman (mother). The Chinese characters are the original way of writing "Karate".
